It was a bit of a dull day today (Wednesday 12th March) and we took a walk into town and came upon a small group of market stalls just off Hardy Street.
It was quite a small affair with stalls selling fruit, honey and bakery products and a few food stalls. The stall selling Bratwurst was particularly enticing as was the German bakery stall pictured. They had some ‘Berliners’ for sale ; it’s the German word for doughnut and reminded me of the famous “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech by J F
Kennedy on June 26th 1963. He was showing solidarity with the people of Berlin. Whilst technically the correct wording, it could unfortunately also have been translated as ‘ I am a doughnut’.
