Christchurch still vibrant

Many buildings in the centre of Christchurch were lost or badly damaged in the devastating earthquakes in 2011. Soon thereafter murals started to appear on walls around the city; artists expressing their creativity and bringing back some hope and vibrancy after the shocking events.

We were pleased to see that this mural tradition has continued with more superbly executed murals around the city.

Weird Wallie…

We thought we’d go and visit Maryborough tomorrow morning – it’s the birthplace of PL Travers – author of Mary Poppins – and is one of the oldest towns in Queensland. It’s only a short drive away, but I thought I’d look up the route and see if there was a possible coffee stop on the way… There were a few places marked on the map, but the one that caught my eye was called – I kid you not – ‘Walliebum’ 🤣 ! Of course I had to know more… so I googled it to check out its cafes. This is what I read… ‘In the 2021 census Walliebum had ‘no people or a very low population’….!
