I got my first swimming fix of our trip today. It was perfect weather and we took the bus out to Mission Bay, the closest sandy beach to where we’re staying. It was busy but not heaving with everyone enjoying barbecues and family games once they’d had their dip in the sea.
Of course I couldn’t persuade Paul to join me for a swim… He was more interested in finding somewhere nice to eat later. We found a bar called De Fontein with speciality Belgium beers and lovely views over the harbour.
The adverts here often make us laugh in a ‘They didn’t really say that, did they?!’ sort of way. Yesterday we caught a trailer for a TV documentary about taxidermy and the lengths people will go to, to preserve their pets. It was called ‘All Creatures Great and Stuffed’...!
In the UK when using London Transport / Tube and Bus system we ‘tap in’ and ‘tap out’ with our Oyster Card. In Auckland they have a ‘HOP’ card and you have to ‘tag on’ and ‘tag off’.
I couldn’t help wondering, as I contemplated the sign asking me to ‘tag off’ on the exit door of the bus, whether this might be an insult ( albeit a very polite one – it did say ‘please’)
