They say the weather can be weird over here and often describe it as ‘four seasons in one day’. (Though to me that sounds more like Ireland…??) But in Christchurch yesterday we were basking in 30 degrees and today it’s 13! Winds changed from hot northerlies to cold south westerlies overnight apparently. We thought we’d woken up in London a few days early!
Word of the Week : Munted
This is a New Zealand word for broken or ruined.
It has always been around; or so I’m told. It came more in vogue however following the Christchurch earthquakes. The Mayor of Christchurch, Bob Parker told journalists ‘Our main sewer trunk is seriously munted. I believe that is the technical term.’
The NZ word for a buffet is ‘Smorgasbord’. They even seem to have a restaurant category describing restaurants as Smorgasbord Restaurants.
