Banksy Exhibition, Auckland

We went to see the Banksy Exhibition yesterday in the Aotea Centre in Auckland. There were over 80 pieces of his work on display. See a selection.

It’s compelling viewing though Banksy’s dark humour is excruciating in its directness. You’re soon ensnared and grappling with some pretty disturbing issues.

He is world famous and everyone recognises his graffiti art, but Banksy himself remains elusive, still keeping his identity secret after more than 20 years of ‘fame’.

Ironic that we now queue and pay 35$ each to see the work of a guy who was pursued by the police for ‘defacing’ buildings and who is still very much the political activist, railing against the ‘norms’ of middle-class society.
