Word of the Week : Munted
This is a New Zealand word for broken or ruined.
It has always been around; or so I’m told. It came more in vogue however following the Christchurch earthquakes. The Mayor of Christchurch, Bob Parker told journalists ‘Our main sewer trunk is seriously munted. I believe that is the technical term.’
Ok it’s not strictly a word. It’s an acronym.

In the UK when using London Transport / Tube and Bus system we ‘tap in’ and ‘tap out’ with our Oyster Card. In Auckland they have a ‘HOP’ card and you have to ‘tag on’ and ‘tag off’.
I couldn’t help wondering, as I contemplated the sign asking me to ‘tag off’ on the exit door of the bus, whether this might be an insult ( albeit a very polite one – it did say ‘please’)
