Word of the Week : BLAT

Ok it’s not strictly a word. It’s an acronym.

You’ve heard of a BLT?  Well this is a BLAT.

BLT, as you know, is an acronym for bacon, lettuce and tomato. BLAT is an acronym for bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato. Avocados are grown here in New Zealand and are therefore more plentiful.  ‘Avos’ ( the New Zealand abbreviation) are often included as part of the menu…



Word of the week : Tag Off

In the UK when using London Transport / Tube and Bus system we ‘tap in’ and ‘tap out’ with our Oyster Card. In Auckland they have a ‘HOP’ card and you have to ‘tag on’ and ‘tag off’.

I couldn’t help wondering, as I contemplated the sign asking me to ‘tag off’ on the exit door of the bus, whether this might be an insult ( albeit a very polite one – it did say ‘please’)
